History of Sunrise Housing
The story of Sunrise Housing that
came to be what it is today started in 1969. Jim and La Donna Lewer
and their 5 children were living in Des Moines and decided they
would like to have their own business. The business they invested
in was Sunrise Mobile Home Park, located in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
For ten plus years, they lived
in Iowa Falls and sold mobile homes. In 1982, they took the sales
operation to a new location on the south edge of Iowa Falls where
they could inventory up to ten new "sectionals" and single-wide
"manufactured homes."
During this time, their youngest
son, Jack, received an Engineering Degree from ISU in 1989. After
a brief stint with Ingersoll-Rand in Dallas, Texas, Jack and his
wife Penny and daughter Chelsey returned to Iowa in 1991, and the
family business.
In 1993, Jack became the manager
of Sunrise Housing. The business soon outgrew its current location,
so in 1995, they purchased the old drive-in theater located further
south of Iowa Falls. This location offered plenty of room, enabling
them to carry a larger inventory and variety of homes.
In June of 1999, Jack and his wife
Penny took over the operation from his parents. Since that time,
Sunrise Housing has increased their inventory up to twenty-plus
homes including single-section, double sectionals, triple sectionals,
2-section ranch modulars, 4-section ranch modulars and Cape Cod
series homes.
Currently Sunrise Housing focuses
on truly custom designed modular and manufactured homes that are
built in either Minnesota or Wisconsin. Our volume sales of homes
have increased from approximately twenty-five in 1991 to well over
one hundred twenty plus homes statewide in 2001.
